Are you a risk-taker?

Are you a risk taker?

My husband was reading a book about a guy who sailed around Great Britain back in the 1860s and he was telling me about one part where the guy had three options.

1) sail back the way he had already come
2) take the easy and safe route forward
3) take the riskier, potentially dangerous and unknown route forward

The bloke chose option three – the riskier option.

Why?

Because he thought it “sounded more exciting”.

But it made me think how often in life we are presented with similar options between staying where we are, going back, taking the safe option or taking a leap of faith and going with the riskier step into the unknown.

And how often we tend not to choose the riskier option for whatever reason or excuse that we come up with.

But why is that really? What’s the difference between the person who plods the safe path and the one who takes the risk?

You could draw many conclusions but ultimately it comes down to knowing that if the đź’© hits the fan you’ve got what it takes to cope, trusting yourself that you are enough and that you have everything within you to deal with what comes your way, and the deep down knowing that you will be ok no matter what.

And if you knew all that, it would take some of that risk factor out of it, it would remove some of that fear of the unknown.

The difference is being sure of yourself, trusting yourself and believing in yourself.

And that’s totally possible because we are more amazing than we think we are.
