Redundancy.
It’s often seen as a dirty word.
I’ve come across a few people over the past few weeks who have been affected in some way by current redundancies – there are A LOT here in New Zealand at the moment.
It’s very easy to view redundancy as bad and to feel our insecurities around money and the unknown.
We become anxious and fearful and stressed.
We can feel like the world is out to get us or that something is wrong with us. That life isn’t fair.
We worry about what we will do, how long will we be out of a job for, should we retrain, are there enough jobs out there, how will I pay the bills?
Feeling like this is normal.
But as my mum says, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
In other words, there is more than one way to look at redundancies.
We can look at them as bad and something to be feared.
Or we can look at them as an opportunity – an opportunity to find a job you actually like, an opportunity to find a job that pays more, an opportunity to start that business idea you’ve had for years that you’re too scared to commit to, an opportunity to retire and live the life you’ve been dreaming about, an opportunity to just take a break and reflect on life and have a reset.
Sometimes we need a nudge to open a new door – and redundancy can be that.
And what we can often forget is that that door might be paved with gold and a beautiful new chapter.
In fact, redundancy might be the best thing that’s ever happened to you. (Share your inspiring redundancy stories in the comments below).
I’m a strong believer that when one door closes another door opens.
Sometimes it can take a while for that other door to open but in the meantime you ALWAYS have the capacity to cope with whatever awaits and the ability to be resilient and creative in times of adversity.
You’re stronger than you think you are.
