Challenge number 4 – write a poem and recite it

Well that was nerve-wracking.

It’s one thing writing a poem, it’s another thing reciting it and putting it out there into the world.

I’ve given myself the challenge of doing something every week that pushes me outside my comfort zone to show how our mind works in trying to hold us back and to show how we are actually more amazing than we think we are.

This week’s challenge – write a poem, recite it and share on social media.

🤣🤣🤣🤣😬😭

The thought of writing a poem was hard enough – I’ve always had the belief that I can’t write poetry.

I’ve always thought I’m not good enough, that there are others better than me. And what do I have to say anyway in poem form.

Then putting those beliefs to the test and being vulnerable to judgement by reciting on camera and sharing with the world on social media and in this post – queue nerves!

I could feel my heart beating, my arms shaking and my voice quivering as I did this video. (hopefully you can’t tell too much – but as a coach I’d ask does it really matter anyway?)

I speak of mind goblins in the poem – and those thoughts that we’re not good enough and our worries of what other people think are just our mind goblins on overtime.

But they aren’t the truth. Because they aren’t grounded in any facts.

And they can’t actually stop us from being the people we want to be or achieving what we want to achieve.

They don’t have that power – other than the power that we give them.

So with that in mind, here goes…

PS – as a self-belief coach I point to the truth that we are stronger, more capable, more resilient and more awesome than we think we are. Interested to learn more? Let’s talk!

Finding your heart

In the forest, you find your heart
At first it beats: ta-da, ta-da
Then in amongst the thickets green
It pulses sweet with power unseen
A gentle melody that starts to sing
And speaks of love and peace within
The shadows stir and light trips forth
Majestic. Bold. It does but dwarf
The fear of goblins, those little pests
Who lurk and crouch and dare caress
The murky corners of the mind
And spin their evil valentine
The forest breathes; the heart composes
Music, magic, the tune flows over
No longer secret, the sound shines free
A deep strength and power. Vitality!
Sourced within and pulsating out
The heart sings truth. It’s all about
How much more that we think we are
Strong, resilient. We are the power!
No more goblins and their chatter
No more fear, it doesn’t matter
All that’s left is heart and soul
A forest rich, a greater whole
So take the path that passes by
The dank, dark shadows of the mind
Find the forest, the sunny clearing
Listen for the heart that’s singing
There you’ll find the truth of you
An awesome truth that’s beautiful
You are a gift, you’re all you need
Embrace the truth, have faith, god speed.
