What are your values?
It’s something I’ve struggled to define for myself for years, something I’ve avoided looking at for years because of how I have previously tied myself up in knots over it – the background to this in the video 👇
But so often we live our lives out of whack. Living a life we think we should have but which actually isn’t aligned with our values.
And as a result we feel unhappy and stuck.
So, this was this week’s challenge in the weekly challenges I’ve set myself. (More on this here).
Challenge number 2: what are my values? 🤷♀️
I downloaded a list and off I went.
And you know what, it wasn’t straight forward.
I found myself wanting to choose a value because it sounded like a value I thought I “should” have. And then there were values I found important, like self-control and perfection, which actually weren’t values because for me they came from a place of fear and lack, rather than the essence of who I am.
Now, I won’t be the only person out there who struggles to figure out and understand what their core values are. And often it seems hard to explore this deeper part of us because of the truth it can throw up – in that we aren’t living our true, authentic selves.
So, here’s three questions I asked myself to help me sort “what’s me” from “what’s not me”.
💖 What do you consider most important in life?
💖 What do you feel gives your life meaning and purpose? What makes you feel alive?
💖 What makes you happiest, most satisfied and most fulfilled?
Use these prompts to help reflect on the personal values that most resonate for you.
And for those who are interested, my values came up as freedom, adventure, individuality, nature and learning.
