It’s the first week back at my computer working – but from a different country.
Same nine to five, same job, same clients, same deadlines, same to-do list.
The only thing different is the location (and I admit, a better view).
But I still felt the groan and the frustration of the alarm clock going off at 6:30am and forcing myself to turn on the computer and get back to work after a couple of weeks off.
And that’s the thing.
We can change our environment as much as we want, believing that will change how we feel – but it doesn’t work that way.
We change jobs, or move departments, or leave partners. Or we move house or go on holiday. Or we get a new hair style or a new set of clothes or go on a diet and lose weight. Or we have a mid-life crisis.
And yet we still feel the same.
None of those external changes will make any difference to how we feel about ‘the thing’ (whatever ‘the thing’ is) if we don’t address how we THINK on the inside about ‘the thing’ first.
That’s why having more money won’t make you happy OR why losing weight won’t make you feel more confident OR getting a promotion won’t make you feel more successful. OR why moving to the other side of the world won’t make you jump out of bed in the morning.
How we feel is always an inside job not an outside job.
That’s because, whatever we THINK influences what we FEEL and that dictates our behaviours, actions and results.
Don’t like your job?
Getting a new one isn’t always the answer.
Often it’s THINKING about the job in a new and different way which is all the change you need.
Or as Wayne Dyer says: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
Understanding and seeing this is the secret to finding happiness, peace and freedom in your life.
And who wouldn’t like that?
