Focus on the journey, not the destination

I had a revelation recently…

That I was falling into the common trap.

I was focusing on the destination. Not the journey.

My to-do list has been pretty mega and I’ve been furiously peddling away thinking of all the things I need to do to reach the destination. I was over thinking and worried and putting myself under more stress than was warranted.

But by focusing on the destination and the need to reach it, regardless of whether there was a deadline or not, I was turning day-to-day life (aka the journey) into a huge chore.

And that is no way to live life.

That’s how you get stressed, burnt-out, depressed, anxious, unhappy and unfulfilled.

Purpose and life isn’t about the destination or the physical achievement of reaching it.

Those are nice-to-haves. But they aren’t the source of happiness or our worth.

Just because you get there doesn’t mean you’ll be happy.

Purpose and life is about the now. The moment. Taking action. Experiencing growth. Connecting and engaging. Feeling joy in what you do. Being grateful. Experiencing awe at the amazingness that is life.

That’s what the journey is about.

And everything is the journey – even the destinations along the way. They all make up part of the greater journey of our life.

Where you are right now is exactly where you need to be.

You’ve got this.
