The only thing that is holding you back from achieving your goals and dreams is…

What you think.

In other words, the stories that you tell yourself that you believe to be true.

What’s holding you back is NOT the excuses you’ve made up or the situation you find yourself in or even your fears or self-doubt.

Yes it feels like that is what’s putting on the breaks – but only because you believe it to be so.

Trust me – I’ve been there.

For three years I wanted to walk the 3,000km (1,864 mile) Te Araroa Trail down the length of New Zealand.

For three years I started to research it, only to give up, believing I wasn’t good enough to walk it.

For three years I put off going after my dream.

In my head, I believed I wasn’t good enough to walk it. That belief was enough to dictate what I thought I could and couldn’t do or achieve.

And I was wrong.

Because in the end I walked that trail in spite of feeling I wasn’t good enough, in spite of feeling like my self-doubt was holding me back.

And I learnt a valuable thing.

Self-doubt wasn’t holding me back – I just thought it was.

I’d let my made-up thoughts about self-doubt and what I thought it meant to be “enough” to put the breaks on my dream for three years.

I believed the negative stories I told myself.

I believed my excuses.

I believed the limitations I put on myself.

But none of that was true.

Because it turns out I am stronger, more capable, more resilient and more awesome than I thought I was.

WE are all stronger, more capable, more resilient and more awesome than we think we are.

The trick is to not believe everything you think.
